Carl Sandburg Home to host free family festival Saturday

FLAT ROCK, N.C. – Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site will host Fall Into the Farm on Saturday, September 21. The family-friendly festival highlights the Sandburg family’s farm life and features a professional puppeteer, square dancing, fairy poem hunt, butter and cheese-making demonstrations and children’s crafts.
During the event, free tours of the Sandburg home will be available from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Young visitors are encouraged to participate in the Junior Ranger program to learn more about the park and Carl Sandburg.
At the barn, families can learn what a goat eats and how that helps it make milk. Visitors can even make their own butter, watch a cheese-making demonstration and get a taste of Mrs. Sandburg’s special recipes.
Throughout the day, an activity station will be available for families to create a corn husk Corn Fairy, one of Sandburg’s beloved Rootabaga Stories characters. In the morning at the amphitheater, children will be introduced to folk tales from across the world with Grayson Morris from the Asheville Puppetry Alliance.
