Tellabration!

Folk Art Center exterior

Asheville Storytelling Circle hosts Tellabration! on Sunday, November 21, from 3 pm to 5 pm at the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Started in 1988, Tellabration! is an international phenomenon, where people from all over the globe gather the week before Thanksgiving to share the art of storytelling. Started in Connecticut and 6 other states, it quickly spread, and by 1997, was on every continent except Antarctica.

Asheville is participating for the 13th year in this global event, sponsored by the Southern Highland Craft Guild and the National Storytelling Network.

Autumn Fun at Fields of Fun Corn Maze

Elaida's Fields of Fun Corn MazeAutumn is one of my favorite times to be in Asheville. The weather is cooperating for a change (not too hot, not too cold), which makes it a great time to get outside with family and/or friends. What better way to spend that time than at Western North Carolina’s best corn maze? This is a great and inexpensive way to spend a day in the great outdoors. The maze may be the main attraction, but it isn’t all that is on offer. Elaida’s putting on a full-on fall festival every weekend. We’re talking attractions like a slack line, a cow train, pedal carts, live music, festival food and even something called “corn cannons”.

MPAC 4th of July WNC Block Party

Fireworks on the Fourth of July

MPAC (Multi Purpose Athletic Complex) has announced a huge lineup for their 4th of July WNC Block Party, to be held on Sunday, July 4th at the North Buncombe High School soccer practice field. The price of admission is an ultra-affordable zero dollars and the event will be taking place from noon to 10 PM. Looking at the musical lineup alone it seems like it is going to be a huge event, but they’re throwing in lots of other stuff like sports demos, a songwriter area, a storytelling area, fashion, food (reason enough to go right there) and they’re recommending you to bring your own instrument for a “pickin’ party”.

MPAC has a fabulous musical lineup with Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, Afromotive, Galen Kipar, Chris O’Neill with Jay Sanders & Billy Cardine, Richard Shulmann,The Red Hot Sugar Babies, Buyaka, Dave Wendelin, the Traveling Bonfires and others tba. There will also be a plethora of performing arts including The Asheville Puppetry Alliance, Asheville Hula Dancers, The AVL Aerial Artists, the Blue Ridge Roller girls and many others.

Also, get a sneak peak fashion preview, “A Taste of PUSH Asheville Fashion Runway Show” for the Fourth of JUly in advance of the PUSH Asheville Fashion Runway Show Benefit for MPAC that will take place on Friday, July 16, 2010 at the Orange Peel.

Also keeping with the MPAC mission there will also be sports demos going on all day in the soccer field adjacent to the stage. Look out for the Weaverville Futbol Club, the Madison and Yancey Counties Youth Soccer teams, Asheville Rugby, Asheville Lacrosse, and High Flight Gymnastics amongst others.

And what Fourth of July festivities would be without Patriotic and Civic activities? MPAC has invited the NBHS ROTC Color Guard and WNC Civil Air Patrol Color Guard.
