Mars Hill College Hosts Smithsonian ExhibitI recently took a family vacation to Washington, DC and while we were there we naturally spent a LOT of time in the various Smithsonian Museums. We enjoyed it immensely, and so I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Mars Hill College is currently hosting a Smithsonian Exhibit titled New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music.

Autumn Fun at Fields of Fun Corn Maze

Elaida's Fields of Fun Corn MazeAutumn is one of my favorite times to be in Asheville. The weather is cooperating for a change (not too hot, not too cold), which makes it a great time to get outside with family and/or friends. What better way to spend that time than at Western North Carolina’s best corn maze? This is a great and inexpensive way to spend a day in the great outdoors. The maze may be the main attraction, but it isn’t all that is on offer. Elaida’s putting on a full-on fall festival every weekend. We’re talking attractions like a slack line, a cow train, pedal carts, live music, festival food and even something called “corn cannons”.

David Gans to Perform 2 Shows in Asheville

David Gans, popular performer and story teller, will be appearing in Asheville at the end of the month with 2 live shows. The first show will take place at The Rocket Club (401 Haywood Rd) on April 27th beginning at 9pm. After swinging up to Greensboro for a night, he returns to Asheville on April 29th for a show at MoDaddy’s (77-B Biltmore Ave) also beginning at 9pm. Both shows have a $7 cover charge.

HATCHfest Asheville Starts April 15

Lots of stuff happening in Asheville on Tax Day, but this is the one I’m most looking forward to. HATCHfest Asheville begins the 15th and runs through April 18.

HATCHfest brings together luminaries in the arts and entertainment world to serve as mentors to groundbreaking new creative talent. We host panels, workshops, keynotes, exhibits, networking parties, and mentoring sessions for four days in the heart of downtown Asheville.

The mission of HATCH is to provide mentorship, education, inspiration and recognition to the next generation of creative innovators. We focus on the creative industries and how to best leverage our creative professions to impact the community and the planet in a positive and sustainable way. HATCHfest brings together luminaries in the arts and entertainment world to serve as mentors to groundbreaking new creative talent. We host panels, workshops, keynotes, exhibits, networking parties, and mentoring sessions for four days in the heart of downtown Asheville.

Tax Day Liberty Throwdown at Emerald Lounge

Two things are sure in life, death and taxes. And if you’re still alive on April 15, then it’s tax day, and the Emerald Lounge is celebrating the event with a Thursday night bash featuring the Tennessee Jed Band. The party starts at 9:00pm, so grab what’s left of your cash and head out to celebrate the giving away of your hard-earned moolah!

Stick it to the man!!! Liberty may be dying in America, but it’s alive and well here in Asheville. Come on down to the Emerald Lounge on Thursday night to hear the Tennessee Jed Band play some sweet soul country pimpgrass, and meet some likeminded liberty lovers. Show starts at 9 pm. Admission is $5.

Festival of Flowers 25th Anniversary at Biltmore Estate

Biltmore House Festival of FlowersThe Biltmore Estate will begin hosting its 25th Festival of Flowers starting April 3rd and running through May 16, 2010. This is a special time of year when the gardens at Biltmore Estate are in full bloom, and it is one of the best times to visit.

During our celebration, enjoy live music daily in the Winter Garden and in the Conservatory. On weekends, our horticulture professionals are in the Walled Garden to answer your gardening questions. Savor special menus in our restaurants, and the 2010 Festival of Flowers wines at the Winery.

Craggie Brewing Wraps Up Tent Drive
