Mountain Dance and Folk Festival
will take to the stage for the 81st time at Diana Wortham Theatre at Pack Place in downtown Asheville on Thursday through Saturday, July 31 through August 2, at 7 p.m. Tickets for the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival are available from the Diana Wortham Theatre at Pack Place box office: 828-257-4530.

Aug1, Oct 3, 2008: Center City Art Walk

Galleries stay open Friday evenings four times a year to showcase new shows and artists. Walk to 30 galleries downtown Asheville. Free.

The Studio Stroll is your chance to tour the studios, meet with the artists and purchase artwork. Within just a few blocks are dozens of eclectic mix of creative artists - from traditional to cutting-edge. Near downtown Asheville. Free.

The Craft Fair, held in the Civic Center in downtown Asheville, has been an eagerly anticipated event in the mountains since 1948. The fair showcases work by members of the Southern Highland Craft Guild, with over 900 members throughout the mountain regions of nine states.

A five-mile road race that climbs 1,568 feet in elevation from Linville to the summit of Grandfather Mountain. Part of Highland Games. Admission charged.


The Grizzly Bike Ride

July 11

The newest event at the Highland Games! The Grizzly is a beautiful and challenging route with 7000 feet of climbing in 65 miles.

Grandfather Mountain Amateur & Professional Camera Clinic

Aug. 16-17

Top professionals from the world of news photography gather to share on the hot topics in photojournalism. Free to working press, additional cost for non-professionals. Seating is limited, so pre-registration is required. Online registration starts July 15th.


Bridge-To-Bridge Incredible Challenge Bike Ride   

Sept. 21   

This 102-mile bike ride departs the Lenoir Mall and makes its way uphill to the Mile High Swinging Bridge. Registration fee.

Peak Beauty of Fall Foliage   

Oct. 5-25   

Fall color comes early to the peaks of Grandfather, so you don't have to wait until late in the month to see spectacular foliage.

Colors will be bright on the upper slopes from the 5th to the 10th. Color at Grandfather will peak between the 10th and 20th. At the end of the month,
